Gen Z aren’t “entitled”. They are just entering the workplace with boundaries, clarity, and very little interest in waiting years to feel valued.

That is one of the most honest takeaways from this episode of Out Of Office with Preeti Bahuguna, Senior HR Director at The First Group. With more than two decades in HR across global hospitality brands, Preeti has seen recruitment trends evolve first hand across the Middle East job market.

And according to her, the shift is real.

Gen Z are not looking for a job that simply pays the bills. They are looking for purpose, culture alignment, and mental health support from day one. Not after probation. Not after three years of proving themselves. From the very start.

However, this creates tension. Because many organisations are still wired for the “safe hire” mindset. Hire what you know, prioritise experience, and avoid risk at all costs.

But the hiring landscape in the UAE and wider GCC is changing. Diversity is no longer just about nationality or gender. It is about lived experience, perspective, and the unique value someone brings beyond a technical CV. Preeti shares how employers are opening up to global experience and how AI in recruitment is being used as augmented intelligence, not a replacement for human judgement.

At the same time, she makes an important point. This isn’t about Gen Z dictating terms, but rather employers and employees must meet in the middle.

For organisations navigating these changes, understanding generational expectations and employer branding has never been more critical. Candidates are becoming sharper, more intentional, and far more selective about where they invest their time. That’s why clarity matters on both sides of the table.

If you are hiring in the Middle East, leading a multi-generational team, or entering the workforce yourself, this conversation is a reminder that recruitment is no longer just about filling roles. It’s about culture, clarity, and credibility.

Gen Z aren’t waiting anymore. The question is, are you evolving with them?
