Executive Personal Branding in 2026: How Leaders Build Trust on LinkedIn

Last year, we said it was time your brand spoke human. In 2026, that’s no longer a nice idea to get round to. It’s the difference between a leader people trust and a logo they scroll straight past.

Here’s what’s changed: trust has gone personal. The 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer which surveyed nearly 34,000 people across 28 countries including the UAE and Saudi Arabia, found that 66% of people now trust the CEO of the company they work for. Over the past five years, CEOs have gained trust while national leaders and major news outlets have lost it.

And here in the Gulf? The UAE sits joint top of Edelman’s global Trust Index at 80, with Saudi Arabia not far behind at 73. As WAM reported, people in the UAE are increasingly looking to CEOs to lead trust-building, both inside their organisations and beyond.

That’s executive personal branding in a nutshell. People don’t want to hear from a company. They want to hear from the person running it.

What we’re seeing from behind the screen

I help manage the LinkedIn presence of several of GRG’s senior leaders, and one pattern keeps showing up. The posts that perform the best aren’t the polished announcements/ They’re the honest takes: a tough hiring call, a lesson learned the hard way, a frank view on where the GCC talent market is heading.

That’s where the comments, the messages and the real conversations come from. It’s also why leadership personal branding in the UAE, and across the wider GCC, has moved from the marketing team’s wish list to a core part of the job.

Personal brand, employer brand, corporate brand: one story

Strong personal branding never works alone. It sits alongside two other voices, and the magic happens when all three line up:

  • Personal brand: sets the individual leader apart and gives the business a human face.
  • Employer brand: attracts and keeps the best available talent.
  • Corporate brand: builds the company’s value in the eyes of clients and stakeholders.

When they tell the same story, each one amplifies the others. When they don’t, people notice… and notice fast.

Why personal branding for CEOs matters more in 2026

  • It humanises your company: In a feed full of AI-written posts, a real person with real opinions is what stands out.
  • It opens doors with buyers: The 2025 Edelman-LinkedIn B2B Thought Leadership Impact Report surveyed nearly 2,000 professionals and found thought leadership in all forms builds trust and opens doors where ads and traditional sales fall short. This means even the hidden decision-makers (often silent scrollers) are reading them just as closely.
  • It attracts the right talent: Candidates want to know who they’d be working for before they apply. Your leaders’ LinkedIn profiles give them a feel for leadership style and culture, which, as we explore in Finding Your Fit: Leadership Styles and Organisational Culture at Work, matters far more than most job ads let on.
  • It strengthens stakeholder trust: Edelman also found employers are now the most trusted institution of all, with 78% of employees trusting their own. Successful leaders are the ones that turn that trust into something people can actually see.

How to build a personal brand on LinkedIn (without sounding like a press release)

You already have a personal brand, whether you’re shaping it or not. Our piece on why your professional presence matters more than ever covers the mindset side. Here’s the practical bit:

  • Own two or three topics: Pick the areas where you genuinely have something to say, and stick to them.
  • Share the why, not just the what: The story behind a decision lands far better than the announcement.
  • Drop the jargon: Dense industry speak falls flat. Write like you’d talk to someone over coffee.
  • Be consistent: One thoughtful post a week beats a burst of activity followed by months of silence.
  • Use AI as an assistant, not a ghostwriter: It can help you shape a draft, but your voice is the asset. Don’t hand it over.
  • Bring your leadership team in: Thought leadership works best when more than one leader is visible.

The key takeaway

In 2026, trust follows people, not logos. Leaders who show up, speak plainly and share what they actually think are the ones winning the talent, clients and credibility that faceless brands miss.

It’s still time your brand speaks human. The difference now? Your audience is already listening for it.
